Luke 6:45 -- A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.
Today as I was pondering over my life, God reminded me of a time in my life when I was working twelve hours a day, cleaning homes, taking college classes plus keeping up with my boys and their sports. My job was not a pleasant job at all. Many days it was hard to even get up and go, but I knew that I had to in order to put food on the table for my teenage boys. One day I found myself singing various songs that I had no idea why or how they came to my mind. The first song I began singing was “Puff the Magic Dragon.” After singing it for a few moments, I chuckled and asked myself, “Where did that come from?” I laughed for a bit as I sang the song with a smile on my face. The laughter from the song made me soon forgot that it was hot, and I was extremely fatigued from the heat.
The next day as I was standing watching the product flow from the oven to the freezer I began to sing “Yankee Doodle.” Again, I don’t know where the song came from. I hadn’t sung it in years. Actually since I was a small child. “Yankee Doodle went to town a ridin’ on a pony. He stuck a feather in his hat and called it Macaroni.” I lost it. I literarily bent over laughing. The song had never struck me as funny until that point. I kept thinking, “He stuck a feather in his hat and called it Macaroni.” I pondered for a moment where in the world did those words come from. There had to be a reason. As for me, it gave me a much needed laughter that day.
The next day I was working in a different department. It was very stressful. I was standing handing flour to a young gal to fill the dusters when I began to sing, “Rain on my window, tears in my heart. No one to hold me since we’re apart. Gray skies above me, no one to love me. Rain on my window, tears in my heart.” My heart saddened, and then I spoke out against Satan. I said, “Get thee behind me, Satan in Jesus name.” This song began to speak sadness in my heart. Here I was alone, seeking God whether He wanted me to have a man in my life, and I was singing a song that was bringing me down without even realizing it. I stopped myself and immediately began to sing, “The joy of the Lord is my strength.” Before I knew it, my spirits were lifted once again.
Two days later, on a Friday, I ran into a lady who worked in the front office who is an ordained minister. We talked for a moment before she began to share with me about speaking prophesies upon ourselves through songs. She shared with me about a time in her life when she sang “Refiner’s Fire” from her heart on a daily basis. She loved that song, and she sang it to God. Before she knew it, her life was falling apart. She thought it was for the worse. She sought a minister about what was going on in her life, and he asked if she’d been doing anything different in her life – prayer, acts or songs. She told him about singing “Refiner’s Fire” all the time. He looked at her and grinned. He cited the words for her, telling her to listen closely.
Purify my heart,
let me be as gold and precious silver.
Purify my heart,
let me be as gold, pure gold.
(Chorus)
Refiner's fire,
my heart's one desire
is to be holy;
set apart for You, Lord.
I choose to be holy;
set apart for You, my Master,
ready to do Your will.
Purify my heart,
cleanse me from within
and make me holy.
Purify my heart,
cleanse me from my sin, deep within.
let me be as gold and precious silver.
Purify my heart,
let me be as gold, pure gold.
(Chorus)
Refiner's fire,
my heart's one desire
is to be holy;
set apart for You, Lord.
I choose to be holy;
set apart for You, my Master,
ready to do Your will.
Purify my heart,
cleanse me from within
and make me holy.
Purify my heart,
cleanse me from my sin, deep within.
I’m sure that this song is very familiar to most of you as it was very popular when it first came out. I believe that every church I attended sang this song during their worship service.
The gentleman asked if she meant the words she was singing. She answered, “Yes.”
He then shared with her that she was prophesying these words over her life. She was lifting these words up to God in prayer. God was answering her plea in this song by bringing forth things in her life that needed to be dealt with so that she would be purified in heart and made holy. Wow! This touched my heart.
Later that day, God hit me with a ton of bricks. “SONGS!” God was speaking to me that week about the power of words in our life, whether they are spoken or sung. The words that we allow to flow out of our mouths makes or breaks us. There is power in the tongue. It can either bring forth life or death. God used this scenario in my life to remind me to watch every single thing that I allowed to come out of my mouth.
Let’s join together in watching everything what comes out of our mouth today.
